No AccessWhile playing from guard can be effective, often times in MMA and self defense it is better to escape to your feet. Particularly if your opponent is mounting an effective ground game, and you had the advantage on the stand up. The most basic way to work up to your feet is with the stiff arm hip escape. The name describes exactly what you are doing, using both arms to push their head off to the side while you hip escape. Once you get that solid hip angle, and you escape your far leg to post on their hip, you can then perform the classic technical stand up. However, a persistent attacked can switch to a single leg, in which case we can counter with a 360 spin back take, as I show here. It might sound fancy, but it is really quite simple.
