Getting take downs in MMA is not easy. Nowadays, every fighter knows how to manage distance, has cage awareness, and can sprawl and dig under hooks well enough. If you expect to force a pure wrestling game in MMA, 9/10 you are going to have a bad time. Instead, you need to be a true Mixed Martial Artist and blend your striking with your wrestling. A simple example is using a jab to setup a double leg take down. We pump out a few jabs to establish our range, and get our opponent to respect the jab. More importantly, we want to draw their hands up to defend by either blocking or catching our jab. Once we can see that, then we know their hands are going to be high, so we can shoot behind our jab with no impediment to our take down. Simple, easy, and effective.
