No AccessThe Eagle Claw is probably my most used passing technique these days. It’s easy to grab, but hard to break. I’m not the only one who does this of course. In the past weekend, you could see young champion Tye Ruotolo using the eagle claw constantly while passing the guard. Why does it work so well? Because when you grip the ankle with the eagle claw, you place your thumb behind their leg by their achilles. This makes breaking the grip hard, as everyone wants to kick forward and not backwards. Plus, by kicking backwards, they open their guard even more. As a result, you get a rock solid grip that allows you spread them out to pass. For the very wirey and flexible people, you can even lift with the eagle claw, which will turn their hips away from you and give you the pass too.
