A staple of kickboxing, the round kick or roundhouse kick is a must know kick if you wish to be a successful mixed martial artist. There are many variations to the round kick, and with this student, I'm emphasizing the stiff leg variation, versus the snapping kind used in traditional martial arts. Why? The main thing I want to convey to a beginner is to use their hips, and if they are focusing on snapping the kick with their leg, they will focus on their legs instead of using their hips. So, by using the stiff leg variation, they have to use their hips to generate power, and plus it is an effective kick, particularly for targeting the legs. Later on, it's easy to add on the option of snapping the leg, which is a good for some tricky kick setups and head attacks.
